PROGRAM OVERVIEW
The Washington Wizards are dedicated to inspiring and empowering young women through the power of sports. As part of the second year of the broader District of Play initiative, the Wizards Girls Empowerment program is expanding to provide high school female student-athletes from across the District with a unique leadership opportunity.
Through this week-long experience, participants will work alongside the Wizards Youth Basketball Department during select Jr. Wizards summer camp sessions, gaining hands-on experience in coaching, mentorship, and leadership. In addition to on-court responsibilities, participants will take part in daily leadership sessions and activities designed exclusively for them - building confidence and a deeper understanding of what it means to lead both on and off the court while inspiring the next generation of athletes.
Week 1 (Cohort 1) - July 6 to July 10
Week 2 (Cohort 2) - July 13 to July 17
Week 3 (Cohort 3) - July 20 to July 24
*During the application process, you will be asked to select one or more of the following cohorts that the applicant will be available to attend. This helps ensure flexibility in placement if a preferred cohort reaches capacity.
*Please note that applicants are expected to attend all five days of the program to receive a certificate of completion.
*All applicants are required to have a coach, teacher, or another adult mentor submit a recommendation form on their behalf. Forms can be submitted after the application, but applicants will be considered conditional if accepted before the form is received. All recommendations must be submitted by April 10.
